About Bed Bugs
Some suspected reasons for the sudden resurgence of the bed bug is the increase in international travel, the difficulty to control as well as the lack of knowledge of the insect and the removal of some effective pesticides like DDT from the market.
Bed bugs catch a ride on their host be it a human, their luggage, clothing or furniture. They quickly and easily infest a structure as they reproduce in very high numbers. Adult bed bugs are typically just ¼ inch in length, have very slim bodies and are bright red to reddish brown in color depending on their last blood mean. Newly hatched nymphs are quite difficult to see at just 1mm long and pearly white in color.
Bed bugs travel at night in search of a human blood meal but any warm-blooded animal will do. They can live up to a year without a meal. They are not known to carry disease, however, anxiety, stress and insomnia have been the basis for many a lawsuit related to bed bugs.
