Mattress and Box Spring Encasements


Mattress and box spring encasements are suggested on EVERY bed, regardless of whether there has been an infestation or not. Protect your investment in mattress and box springs with Protect A Bed encasements!

The covers fully encase the mattress and the box spring. They take approximately five minutes to install. If the mattress is currently infested it is recommended that you first vacuum the mattress or box spring and then simply slip the cover over the mattress or box spring and zip closed. After installing it is recommended that you leave the encasement in place without laundering it to ensure that all bedbugs that may have been present die off. Consider the encasement as now part of the mattress.

The fit of the encasement is extremely important. If the encasement is too small you risk a tear and a way for bed bugs to escape. If the encasement is too large there will be folds in the material where bed bugs can hide. It is also recommended you use duct tape to cover the sharp edges of the box spring so that you protect the box spring encasements from tears.

There are a number of very important advantages that encasements bring to a bed bug management effort.

1. Protection of New Beds
During an infestation, if new beds are introduced they are likely to become infested as well. Encasements can be used to protect the new mattress and box springs, preventing them from becoming infested by bugs that are still present in the structure.

2. Salvage Infested Beds
Many organizations are simply not in a financial position to replace infested mattress and box springs. Encasements are a solution. Bugs and eggs that may still be present in mattresses and box springs become trapped within the confines of the encasement, where they will eventually die from starvation. Remember: it is important that you not remove the encasement once it is in place.

3. Increase Efficiency on your bed bug jobs.
Removing or killing bugs that are associated with mattresses and box springs is a time consuming process. Box springs are especially difficult to address due to the complex construction which makes it virtually impossible to eliminate 100% of the bugs and eggs. Encasements resolve this problem by trapping bugs and eggs inside. On return visits, any new bug activity is restricted to the exterior of the encasement, where they can be easily dealt with.

4. Make your clients' beds more comfortable.
Typically when you think of mattress encasements the old vinyl ones come to mind that were loud and very uncomfortable to sleep on. Our encasements are made of good quality cotton and have been reported to actually make clients' beds more comfortable to sleep on.
